Has anyone tried installing a 160GB Classic HD inside a 80GB iPod Video?

Would you get the new interface?

No, you wouldn't. The interface needs the classic's hardware to run on. In other words, you'd have to try to stuff ALL the innards of the classic into a 5G iPod to make it work, which is rather pointless.

If the shell is the same, I guess could take the drive, battery, and back cover from a 160GB and put it on the new 120GB, but IMO that's rather pointless. You don't need 160GB of music even if it's all lossless.

I have 95 gigs of mp3s at an average 200kbps. 18,000 songs. So lets do some math. "Even if it is all lossless" i would have.... 18,000 times an average 35mbs a file...

630,000mbs.

Or. close to 630 gbs of music.

Hum... i don't only have Black Eyed Peas, and Jack Johnson on my iPod.

Oh. And i have 202 music videos. You will lose this argument here.

yeah, but do you need 18,000 songs?

I don't know about you, but I find a playlist of around 1500 songs keeps me occupied for a few months.

He may not need 18,000 songs but rather wants 18,000 songs.
I need like a 200GB iPod to hold all my stuff; I have 70GB of music and 90GB of video.
If I don't have as much of my library with me as I can hold or I have to little, I'll start to freak out.

Well Genius now makes SUCH a wonderful use of my music. I reminds me of all the stuff i haven't heard in a long time.

Plus having that much music is worthwhile. You would be happy if you did. Imagine, any song you have ever wanted to listen to, having it at your fingertips. Anything from Minus the Bear to Metallica to Madonna to Stan Gets to Chopin to Spice Girls to Underoath to Bill Evans to Josh Groban to Phil Collins to Styx to The Who to Joe Satriani and so on and on.

1,500 songs cannot even do a single genre complete justice.

I like to have all my music in the palm of my hands. I don't need everything all the time, but I like to have access of it when I feel like it.

Just like HD for your computer. Who really needs 1TB of drive space?

Looks like no one has tried this.

I also like to have all of my music at hand - but why not just get the 160GB Classic in the first place? - I like it a lot more than my 60GB 5th Gen pod. Unless you just want a tech project for the fun of it?

i really dont understand the purpose of this DOWNGRADE! i mean ffs....

on a side note, samsung has just come out with a 240gb 1.8 harddrive,
whats the chances of cracking open a classic and putting this in, and it working?

Because some people, including myself, prefer the 5G over the current Classics (I have a black classic)

And to the OP, have you thought about just halling an entire iPod Classic in a iPod 5G casing? that way you get the best of both worlds, also, you could attempt to put in the 240GB hard drive, although it would be very costly...

I grabbed a 160GB iPod (Black) today before they sell out. Two Best Buy stores in my area don't have any more.
I want to upgrade my 5th gen to 160GB to match and I like it becuase it is in white.
I wonder if the housing of 5th gen (white) will fit my new Classic. Anyone?
