On Verizon, I periodically dial *226 to update the prl and list of cell towers in the phone. Is that necessary on ATT, and if so, what do I dial?

cell tower update necessary on ATT?

No, there's nothing like that to dial on GSM carriers like AT&T. It's supposed to be updated automatically, although I've seen some forum posts where people were told to turn off their phones for 30 seconds and turn them back on (which they were told forces an update in case your phone missed anything).
