Hey guys,

got a special question, hope you can help me solving this little problem.
So, I'd like to know which hdd you guys would suggest me to get.
Is a 7200 rpm or a ssd better for using or better said working with Ableton Live?
I don't think you'll use all the space for a gig.
Hope you can help me.

And another non related question:

Which display might be the better choice for dark locations (e.g. clubs)?

Thank you in advance!

Cheers.

I think you'll be fine with a regular 7200rpm drive. But you'd be wise to run an external drive also, for backups at least.
SSD can be faster (It is for the MacBook Air, im not certain about MacBook/MacBook Pro's) but the point is, the regular drive will be plenty fast enough.
How many audio tracks do you think you might be running?

Don't know, just going to start with it.
I depends how long I have to play 3 ~ 5 hours might be around 50 ~ 80 tracks.
No MP3, so I guess I'd need a quite big amount of space on my hdd.
Guess I'd choose the 7200 rpm hdd.

But, which display might be the better choice for dark locations?
Imo the glossy one would be better than the other one.

Sorry for double posting, but which MacBook Pro should I choose?
The old or the new one, because of FireWire.
By the way is the difference between 667 MHz DDR2 and 1066 MHz DDR3 ram a big one?

Both Macbook Pros have firewire 800. The new one requires you to convert the Firewire 800 to 400 but that is easy. The ram is not a huge different but what is the price difference for you?

I would go with the new one just because I could use that extra power for gaming and what not.

I say 7200 rpm external drive and if you can find a previous gen macbook pro or even macbook that should be sufficient for you depending on how many tracks and effects you'll be running in ableton. Max out the RAM though, the speed shouldn't make much of a difference, but the more the merrier.

edit: I should add that I'm using a 17" macbook pro and the xtra screen real estate really helps in ableton.
