This fixed the compatibility issue I was having between iMovie 08 and Quicktime 7.5.5. iMovie would not detect my built in iSight for some reason because of Quicktime 7.5.5.

Nice one Apple.

same thing it has happened twice in the past 10 minutes after 2 restarts. the keyboard and trackpad stopped working then the screen flickerd, i plugged in a usb mouse and it worked but my wifi would not turn back on till i restarted. is there anyway to downgrade?

EDIT its happening again. like clockwork 30 seconds after i unplug my mouse the screen flickers and i cant use wifi, but my keyboard still works?? this sucks

Which OS version?
Have you Repair permission?

Does anyone have the issue where during fullscreen playback the dock will unhide itself? I use my iMac to watch movies in bed and it's annoying having to get up to hide the dock.

If anyone else does have this issue, does 7.6 fix this?

Not a web-clip. An actual quicktime movie.

Go watch any of these trailers:

Want to save one to your desktop? How would YOU do it? I can do it in 2 seconds. I can get around that without Quicktime Pro, but it takes time and is a pain. Yes, I would pay $30 just to avoid that.

easy, navigate to the hd page, right click, view source, command-f, type in 1080, copy the link for the .mov file (which should be right in front of you) and paste it into the downloads window.

Piece of cake.

BTW, i do have QT pro, but for other reasons.

I could also imagine the people that would be p*ssed off about the AAC encoding improvement as others have said; at least those that have spent considerable time ripping their library without lossless.

I for one would be one of those people if I ripped in AAC...I'm pretty much a quality obsessive person when it comes to ripping music...that's why I ripped in LAME 256mp3...

Personally I can't tell a difference between AAC 256kbps and LAME 256kbps...there both high quality formats.

The point of this post: If you ripped at a high bitrate in AAC I'm sure you won't be able to tell the difference...but...if you ripped in a low bitrate in AAC there might be a noticable difference now with the QuickTime update.

LAME is also constantly being developed/changed/improved, so it's no different in that respect.

Not a big fan of Quicktime, I never use it, only for .mov files and watching trailers online.. I mostly use VLC player for movies..

Improved H.264 encoding?

<shrugs>

x264 makes QuickTime look like a joke. It produces far, far better results than Apple's encoder can.

When will they fix the inability to play Dolby Digital 5.1 from Apple's own HD TV shows. These work fine in AppleTV, but in PCs/Macs, they play in 2 channel only. Hopefully fixing that will also fix people that use Handbrake to rip their DVDs to MP4 file can get DD 5.1 also.

Well!! They did not fix it. Damn it. I just tried to play TV shows that I bought from the iTunes store. It has the surround track and it works fine in AppleTV, but on my iMac connected using optical cable to my receiver, the surround track plays nothing, stereo plays in stereo!! Apple, fix this. I submitted a bug report in the apple bug tracking system. They linked it to an existing bug and don't show any status for the original bug report. Even people in Apple can't see the original bug report. Sometimes this secrecy is damn frustrating.

I love it when people say this. Chances are you're using a part of QuickTime every day. It's not only a player, it's also a key framework in OS X (a framework that has just been updated).

Same issue here

I had a small issue. Everything downloaded and installed ok but then - right before automatic restart - it got stuck. There was the default Leopard wallpaper and the spinning wheel but nothing happened at all for about 10 minutes so I had to press ON/OFF button for few seconds and then turn it on again. Fortunately, everething seems to be ok now.

I had the exact same issue. But seems OK now.

(this is on a 2006 15.4" mbp running 10.5.6)

So this story turns out to be a load of bollocks:

Did this update fix the iMovie + iSight recording? I had to resort using an old fix involving installing Quicktime 7.5 and then 7.5.5 in order to record using my iSight in iMovie 08. Overall, my MacBook doesn't have a fan-spinning craze when using quicktime.

I have tried 3 times to update and every time it ask me to restart to complete installation it goes to a progress bar (configuring installation) and sits for 15 mins before I give up and press the power button for 4 secs and reboot.

BTW - it's a a 24inch iMac 2.8ghz

After updating I'm happy to find that certain Photo Booth effects plug-ins that were not functioning before are now working. Certain older video podcasts in my library that were previously stuttery and blocky now play smoothly. Hurray for improvements!

I re-encoded the Killer's Hot Fuss to tell what the difference in AAC encoding might be. The album was originally encoded w/ QuickTime 7.5.5 using AAC 128 kbps (VBR), & encoded a second time w/ QuickTime 7.6 using AAC 128 kbps (VBR).

6 tracks showed no change in size via the Summary Screen.
3 tracks showed .1 mb increase in size
1 track showed a .2 mb increase in size
1 track showed a .1 mb decrease in size.

I could tell no difference in sound quality.

This might help. You may have some incompatible codecs. Check out the link for help. If none of those work try this:

First, run permissions repair. Then if that doesn't work, perhaps a PRAM and SMC reset are in store for you. Shut down and unplug your iMac for a few minutes along with any cables/USB that are connected. After waiting, plug in the power cord. Then plug in any USB devices/cords. Then restart and hold down Command-Option-P-R until it chimes twice.

If that doesn't work, maybe something went screwy with your 10.5.6 update. Download it here and install. Make sure you run permissions repair before and after. Then after that rerun the updates.
