i'd still love a totally black Mac OS. white/light gray is ugly, causes eyestrain and wastes more energy:apple:

A medium gray is chosen to be the least intrusive and least noticeable to keep you focused on your actual task.

Rarely is the finder your task, its usually iPhoto or Photoshop or some other document creation software.

uh....who cares? "put back"........what's the point?

shouldn't we all be using a back-up, like TimeMachine?

if you delete a file.......get Time-Machine to restore it.

Apple.......work on something more productive than this crap, please.

You fail at reading.

This doesn't replace time machine! This is for files still in the trash, so of course you don't need a backup to restore them. Use your brain before posting.

Right, by this mentality, we should get rid of all undo functions and rely on TM to get back old files. You know, not everyone uses TM, even if they should, and not everyone has a constant access to their TM backup anyway - do you think all laptop users carry around their backup drive?

Read my above response.

And it's not like Apple is marketing this as a feature. Developers have seen this and Mr is reporting on the find.

Maybe you'd get the point if you understood the feature. Instead of complaining, go back and read it again, you're obviously not understanding.

The current theme is definitely the perfect default... but there are a lot of complaints by Vista users about the lack of eye candy. I think Apple should add glass themes and other colours etc, but as an option rather than the default.

I think you'll find they are putting back features that were seemingly taken out for no good reason.

I'd love the ability to send messages via bluetooth from address book again...:confused::mad:

Ever deleted 5,000 files, done some other stuff for 10 minutes, and realized that one of the plug-ins you erased was a mistake?

You can't command z, that will undo the last few things you did, but this is 10 minutes ago, remember.

Different scenario. I was thinking about immediate regret, like, oops, I accidentally highlighted something to delete I didn't mean to, or I was trying to cmd-tab but did cmd-delete.

Trash?

Put Away (command-Y) was great for moving anything back to it's original folder and wasn't exclusive at all to the trash, it's just a confusing example from the article. This was a huge time saver back in the day if you say, had moved stuff from different places to your desktop (preference files, fonts, sounds, etc) then wanted them back where they came from without having to remember each origin and navigate there.

Incidentally, it was the best way to eject a floppy using the keyboard without leaving a greyed out image of it on the desktop like Eject (command-e) did.

ok, so when do they FIX THE DAMN FINDER?!?!

Great... now maybe they can get around to fixing the stuff that REALLY needs fixed.

like the ***** finder. and the damn dock.

is it too much to ask that the finder always behaves the same way? like, i don't know... windows? why can't i ALWAYS rename or delete a file in finder? why does the "open file" finder differ from the "real" finder?

these are not difficult things to accomplish, and it's embarrassing how ridiculous the finder is. suck.

Can anyone who has witnessed the Stacks Folder Navigation comment on its animation? The picture makes me assume that sweeps back. Is this correct?

Snow Leopard looks to be shaping up quite nicely as a good upgrade over Leopard, lets hope they continue with the tweaks rather than trying for more flash.
i agree, adding flash for the sake of just adding features *cough* microsoft *cough* is just stupid.

While we are on it: I want my folders sorted first in column-view. Please, please give me that option.

I am currently using Forklift to do all my basic file-management tasks, because I truly hate the Finder...

I would hope that these kind of simple additional features will be in an update to 10.5 if we don't see a PPC version of 10.6.

So what was wrong with Edit/Undo to put the deleted files back to where they were?

Currently, performing an Undo from Trash only allows one Undo.
Thus, if you have trashed several items individually, you can only Undo the last item Trashed.

Put Away would allow you to go through a multi-item Trash can and systematically place each item back to it's pre-Trashed location. Which sounds great.

I'm more interested if those closer to the dev builds can comment on stability and/or indicate how close they think we might be to GM?
My pending MacBook Pro purchase is waiting for a shipping 10.6.

Thanks.

A big trash feature that I miss from my Windows days is the ability to delete individual items from the trash. Sometimes I like to store stuff in the trash that I'm pretty certain will be deleted, whereas other stuff I'd like to delete straight away (e.g. very large files)

It's annoying in this situation, as you would have to either move stuff out before you can empty the trash, or delete the stuff that you don't want to permanently delete yet

Just open a folder from the dock

All I want in OS X is the Dock folder to work just like 10.4's. So I can click on a folder and it opens up the finder window. no stacks no grids. I mean, the option to.

Put Back [...] I wonder how it will behave with iTunes files? Will it be greyed out, or will it reimport the file with the original counts and stuff?
Exactly, I every once in a while I manage to accidently put a podcast into the trash. There is no way to get the podcast to appear back where it was short of unsubscribing and re-subscribing (and re-downloading) all episodes.

I can't wait for snow leopard! plus will be getting my macbook pro around the realease of SL yay.

The put back feature IS useful. There have been occassions when I've needed to "restore" a file back to where it was.

Yes, same here as I mentioned above. Have you tried my workaround? Take a folder, say Applications, create an alias to it and drag that alias to a folder (I have a top-level Aliases folder on my hard drive.) Then rename that folder to just "Applications" instead of "Applications alias". Finally drag to dock. Other than the tiny arrow, you are back to 10.4 behaviour. Repeat as needed. :)

I personally love the Finder in its current form. Call it nostalgia, but its quality over the last 10 years was one of the reasons that I learned a lot more about file management from the command line. :D

ok, nice feature, more please.

iCal definately needs some makeover just as safari does... just to mention two
