At the rate things are going, a high-end PC powered by the Intel Core i7 CPU with 8 GB of RAM, 1 TB Serial ATA-II hard drive, 512 MB nVidia or ATI PCI-E graphics card with DVI-D output, and a nice 24" LG or Samsung 1920x1200 flat panel looks like a bargain in comparison. Given that Windows Vista Home Premium or Ultimate editions with SP1 is stable and reasonably fast on a Core i7 system, why would you bother with an overpriced iMac?![]()
You can clearly only purchase 2.0Ghz Models from the online store. Looks like they pulled the 2.26GHz CPU on the mini?
How the ******* does $599 translate to £499? Even with VAT it doesn't come close. Oh well its time to move to a hackintosh.![]()
Speaking as a mac user from the UK may I just say:
Hooooooooooooooooooooooow much???
£500 for the Mac Mini? Are they taking the proverbial here? I know the pound is weak right now but my lord that's expensive. Yes, it's priced as it always is against the dollar but that's almost a months rent for the most basic computer Apple makes these days.
I wonder how well OS X runs on a Dell Mini 9....
Yes, completely correct. The old iMac was £782... and now the 'new' one is £949? And it has shared graphics - no dedicated graphics!
WORST UPDATE EVER!!!!
So, now I have 2 options. A refurbished 24" 3.06Ghz (essentially the same as the "new" one), or a Hackintosh![]()
Like this:
600 / 1.4 (the exchange rate) * 1.15 (VAT) = 492
add a few quid for the cost of transport and doing business in the UK...
If you dont like it, blame the government, the bankers, the economy. Not Apple
UK Prices are an absolute joke!

How does that compare to the ATI HD 2600 Pro? (I know very little about graphics cards)
And just like that my 3.06Ghz iMac with the 512MB 8800 is officially old hat.
Sigh.
