I used to play Sauerbraten all the time, and it's fun as hell. But I was wondering what other FPS freeware applications are available for download out there.

Thanks! :apple:

Urban Terror

a free game, about a 700 MB download, used to require quake 3, but no longer. runs great on os x, i get smooth 60+fps on my macbook pro.

Not really a single player game, but great to go fight some people online easily. Free for all, Capture the Flag or bomb mode are the best depending on what kind of action you're looking for.

my favorite parts are the physics and how you can strafe jump (bunny hop in an arc) to get places quickly, knife and boots are fun to humiliate or if you run out of ammo, and if you can jump on someone's head from 10 feet up or more they get curb stomped.

there are lots of maps to test these jumping skills, and running in arcs on ice makes you go really fast

icy ones get pretty out of control by the end of the vid

some windows free FPS: Combat Arms, Operation 7 both have a leveling system and aim down sights and weapons mods ala CoD4.

Call of Duty. All of them. (love 4)

Not exactly free.

It requires bootcamp, but Tribes Next (a free version of tribes 2) is an awful lot of fun

Savage can be good too.. but i've had somewhat limited luck trying to run it under OS X

Instant Action has some cool browser-based games like Fallen Empire: Legions and they are going to be relaunching Tribes soon. If you don't have Steam installed I recommend you do. They sometimes have some really good deals on their content. Right now Unreal 3 Black for $12.00. I know it's not free but it is cheap and they do sometimes host free weekends where you can play the full game without buying.

1. What do you mean Call of Duty is free (besides bootcamp)?

2. Which is better? Wolfenstein or Combat Arms? CA looks nicer.

Thanks for the input,
Clayne

Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory

here's another vote for:

Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory

Still the only game I play regularly. I feel like this game was a big inspiration for team fortress 2, in that the game play is very similar, and several TF2 maps bear a striking resemblance to Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory maps.

I tried to download this from http://www.planetwolfenstein.com/files/files.shtml

But it wouldn't allow me to download the DMG file, saying that an Active X control could not be installed. Seems a little brain dead to force users to download a Mac file from Windows. I actually do have boot camp installed, but I haven't had time recently to close all my open files and applications and actually reboot into Window$. Does anybody know of a workaround?
