I was zeroing out the data on my 12" PowerBook before I installed Leopard and it failed. Now my hard drive isn't showing up. What should I do?

Take it to an apple store and have them run a diagnostic. Or, get a newer faster hard drive and install it yourself or pay an authorized 3rd party repair shop to do it for you.

The hard drive was at least four or five years old, right?

It's possible the HDD has gone bad. Can you hear/feel it spinning or clicking?
