Full screen on TV using VLC player

I am connecting my macbook to the tv through a mini dvi to s-video on my
32" vizio lcd tv. i want to be able to play movies on full screen but on my tv its no doing that. In system preference under appearance its set to mirror. What do i need to do to achieve this. On the vlc player under video if I do fullscreen then on the macbook its shows full screen but not on the tv.

First of all, does your LCD have a DVI-in? If so, it's better to plug in to that than through the S-Video port.

Secondly, try this - uncheck "Mirror" and instead drag the VLC windows (video and controller) to the second monitor area, then press fullscreen.
