Anybody know of a app that allows free texting between the iPhone and Blackberry? I was looking at a couple messaging programs but they seemed like they didn't do notifications while the phone is in sleep mode like the apple sms. Any opinions? Thanks

Right now, nothing from the App Store does true background notifications.

There are some options, but it depends to some extent on how fast you want the communication to be. You could use the Blackberry e-mail address for the BB (or any other e-mail address that pushes well) and a push e-mail account on the iPhone, like a Yahoo one. That way it should push on both sides, although it might not end up still being as quick as SMS.

Otherwise, you might explore the jailbreak type of options....

Once background notification is allowed, we can expect apps to offer text based messages utilizing data plans. That however, does not answer whether it is a common platform with BB.

Thus far, push mail is the only solution. MobileMe, Yahoo push et al.

You can send a Blackberry Level 1 Pin Message on you iphone with this.

Why not just email the recipient, this service being a web based service after all? Forward sending is fine, its the receiving thats the issue since iPhone lacks push on IMAP.
