Late 2008, 15" is SATA.
edit: Early 2008 is UATA/100

I believe the transition to SATA is with the unibody models.

If your machine is pre-unibody, that should be the right interface. Other than that, I don't have any information. My guess is it should work, even in OS-X (with something like Roxio Toast - but, not for movie viewing). I know Toast supports Blu-ray in either external or internal (5" bay).

from auction's description said:
  • * Fit 12.7mm slot in load drive laptops, Please make sure your laptops is height 12.7mm
  • * Interface: IDE / ATAPI (DMA66 support)
This won't fit in any MBP unless it's the 17" model as the drive is too "tall" you need the 9mm drives for the 15" MB/Ps.

Also the UniBody Macbooks have the SATA drives while the older ones uses the IDE/ATA interface.

So does that mean i can get either a SATA or an IDE 12.7mm blu ray drive? Both will work?

No. As posted you have a PATA, IDE, UATA/100 - all much the same beast. So, need the same interface Blu-ray. Your MacBook Pro does not use SATA for the optical drive bay.
