The 3.0 OS allows parental restrictions with a separate lock code (not the one that unlocks the Touch to use). With them, you can lock out Safari, among other things. Might be worth buying (next week) in your case. If he can't use Safari, porn will be harder to surf. You can't, as far as I know, disable wireless itself, though, barring actually dismantling the iPod itself.

Wouldn't it be easier to encrypt your neighbor's router?

Some people are willfully lazy. If they don't want to put a password on their router because it might inconvienence them, they don't have any ground to complain about some other idiot hopping on their open network. No matter how wrong the other idiot is.

I used to set up wireless networks for homes and businesses a few years ago and it was amazing how many people were like "My wireless networks secure I have Nortons! And I hear encryption slows things down" (Soooo much wrong with that statement) So Id have to whip out my laptop, show them how I just found all their shares and can print from their printers etc etc. Some people are REALLY dumb when it comes to wireless security.

The worst mistake though is never changing your default router login.


I can see where the neighbor would have a monitoring program but only know how to do that (they're easy to install) but I agree, in the end its the neighbors fault hes on their wifi.

Disabling ipod touch

Actually - I am also looking for a way to disable wireless on an ipod touch. the problem isn't asking your neighbor to encrypt his internet because the kid can get it anywhere. Mc Donalds, other parents, school, etc.

If there is a way to remove it permanently besides in the settings please let me know.

Maybe a nano is a better choice?

A little piece of foil tape over the antenna should kill wireless. If you can find one of those foil void stickers that can't be peeled off, even better. Alternatively, pull the screen and either foil tape over the antenna cover or disconnect the antenna. Any of my solutions will significantly hurt the resale value of the touch, but they will be effective.

Couple of things.

First, it is the neighbor's responsibility to protect their network. Better this boy leaching to view porn than a hacker stealing their identity. Lock it down, make it hidden or give it a generic network id so it isn't traced to their house.

Second, if your mom has a problem with him stealing bandwidth and viewing porn, THEN GROW UP AND BE A PARENT!

I'm surprised that there isn't a way to disable WiFi on a Touch or iPad, I was thinking that they would be a good device when I have kids, that I could control usage of far more than a computer.

Your stupid neighbor should either quit complaining or encrypt his router, however.

I thought itunes came with parental controls...you can also try that.

I don't think disabling safari will stop him, he sounds resourceful... there are heaps of other browsers in the app store
