Crash reports

Interestingly, crash reports are now sent automatically -- it doesn't prompt you to send it or not. It DOES prompt you to see the details of the report, and to reopen the application (or not).

Is there an option to disable them completely if one wants? I dont mind sending them, but assume some people will!

Not that I've seen. I would imagine you could do it with a terminal command (bool settings, etc.), but I am not aware of one through "normal" UI channels like a System Preference or something.

What do you mean how is Safari in 64-bit? Apple rewrote it if that's what you mean.

Flash, as you can see in my screenshot, Java and Shockwave all work. Flip4mac is compatible with QuickTime X too, as far as I know, haven't had any problems with it. :)

Can you confirm that we will finally have Java 6 with Safari? This has been my biggest frustration over the past year...having to boot up Linux or the nasty VM's to access web apps that require Java 6 (which, for my job is a LOT).

Anyways just wanted everyone to know that Apple is sending all beta testers a dvd copy of 10a432 - for bug testing - and the usual error submission procedures are in place.

So either Apple is sending all testers a free copy of the new OS - or 10a432 is not the final build. There are no known issues listed on the seed site.

Since all Canadian testers won't be receiving their dvd's until mid next week via DHL - it seems odd if this was still a beta, because our feedback would not be seen until only a couple weeks before its formal release - which isn't really enough time for pre-release bug fixes.

I guess they are getting ready for 10.6.1 already because there's bound to be some bugs that they missed or ones that manifest in odd situations.

See attachment. It should be noted that the Java preferences default to attempting to load 64-bit java before 32-bit in 10.6.

For the people who installed the possible GM build:
Are the new Expose and Dock functions working as Apple presented them on the WWDC09? And is OS itself (not 3rd party apps) running stable, since a red some websites reporting it was sometimes buggy and slow?

The UI as presented at WWDC 2009 was implemented in the first patch after the release of the WWDC developer build -- so roughly 1.5 months ago.

Additionally, the OS (and default applications) have been very solid since the build/patch referenced above, and continues to be solid and fast. The GM build feels a bit faster/snappier than the most recent developer patch (10A421, I believe), which may be due to pulled debug code, compiler optimizations, and/or placebo effect ...

So it take like 3 weeks to spin up the dvd printing and boxing. They had the seed and the disks out rather fast to quite a few people. I would say this is it folks if not then i would be surprised. There is not a lot left to change. They have fixed all the bugs i was having with the spaces expose. This is great it is way faster now. I can say this is a great upgrade it is really like a mega service pack. There are no real major changes to the surface.

hi, just installed snow leopard 10A432, im having problems with my lcd its like its hurting my eyes compared to leopard. maybe much brighter? or changed of font type? its just me or anyone else?

btw i already did "6" and "4" at boot and saw intel(64bit) in activity monitor
but system profiler says
64-bit Kernel and Extensions: No

bug? or something?

Gamma was changed from 1.8 (MacOS up to this point) to 2.2 (Snow Leopard and on). This makes the image brighter. See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gamma_correction

64-bit kernel ONLY works on the most recent iMacs, Early 2008 Mac Pro and later (maybe one generation before this?), Unibody MacBook Pro 15" and 17" (and possibly one generation prior for both of these sizes only), and XServes. The latter-most boots by default to 64-bit kernels, all others require holding '6' and '4' or editing nvram or the boot configuration file.

If your computer is not one of the above, it won't boot to the 64-bit kernel even if you try to force it. You can verify your running kernel by typing: uname -v in the Terminal application.

@monksealpup

Darwin Kernel Version 10.0.0: Fri Jul 31 22:47:34 PDT 2009; root:xnu-1456.1.25~1/RELEASE_I386

im using mac mini 2009

only the kernel is not 64 bit? but its runing 64 bit native apps... im a bit confused though :(

I'm running on a 17" UMBP and it's only running 32-bit. I'm confused.

EDIT: Alright I forced it and it's now running 64-bit. How do I make it boot to 64-bit by default though?

Didn't you read the seed notes? It says in there how you can make it boot to 64-bit by default.

Here ya go...

If you want to force the 64-bit kernel (which means it will run in 64bit mode all the time - without pressing any keys) then go to Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist. Make sure you have a backup of that file. Now open it (with TextEdit) and add "arch=x86_64" under "Kernel Flags" to make it look like this:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple Computer//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">
<plist version="1.0">
<dict>
<key>Kernel</key>
<string>mach_kernel</string>
<key>Kernel Flags</key>
<string>arch=x86_64</string>
</dict>
</plist>

Restart. Open System Profiler and look under Software. See if it says "64-bit Kernel and Extensions: Yes.

I saw some people complaining that their processes where not all 64bit. I just installed SL 10A432 on my Late08 Unibody MBP and the result is 64bit only, without any 64bit forcing at boot:

Sorry for the Dutch langues

so how does the upgrade actually work for registered Leopard users? Do we just pop the disc in and install or will SL come with an actual serial number we have to input? Its kind of confusing.
