Sex aid causes bomb scare

A sex aid has caused a bomb scare at a South African rubbish dump, the Cape Times says.

A group of women searching for items for recycling heard a ticking sound coming from a rubbish bag.

Thinking it could be a bomb, they informed the manager of the Hermanus dump in Cape Town, Adolf Hansen.

"I thought I would just tear the bag open a bit, and then there I saw what it was - a vibrator, the batteries still working," he told the newspaper.

Mr Hansen said he told the women recyclers there was no danger of an explosion, and attempted to explain what the item was to the mystified group.

He recognised what it was immediately, he said, because he had seen vibrators "more than once" before. This one, he said, was "middle-sized".
Usually it's the large ones that are mistaken for bombs....

People are so stupid. Like the people that think a packpack left on a bench out side of a libary could be a bomb and the bomb squad ends up tring to detonate a kid's school books.

Why do people call in bomb treats for "suspicious" bags. It's pretty stupid. Oh yeah a bomb at a dump. OK. :p

LOL! What a great story.

My ex was pretty adventurous and we had a few toys. I tossed them out when we split. Now I wish I would have turned them on before dumping them. :D

I actually read about something similar happening in the Palm Beach International Airport when a woman, embarrassingly, had to have security unpack her bag in front of everyone and having the security guard pull out 3 dildos, some fuzzy handcuffs, a whip, and some lub among her cloths, makeup, shoes, etc. I can't imagine what that would have been like...did the security officer keep a straight face? How about the other passengers?

I'm surpised that a vibrating sex toy would be making a clicking sound that would sound like a bomb. If that is the case someone might get embarassed at the airport check point when the checker pulls out someones sex toy. :p

anytime you carry something like that, you run the risk of intense public embarrassment. She would have done well to have the items shipped, if at all possible, as to prevent the realized risk for this sort of incident.

As a former customs officer, there is very little giggling going on, and most of the time they are just regular people and not porn queens (which is what's usually imagined when people hear these stories). When I found my first set of sexual toys in someones luggage I was first embarrassed, then amused, and then disgusted (luckily I was wearing gloves). By the time my last summer was over I wouldn't even phase me, and I bet Airport officers get even more than I saw. Sure it maybe another story to tell around the water cooler, but there's nothing illegal about it.

That being said, since she was at an airport they might have been looking for explosive devices, and might have asked her to turn them on... :) Mind you if they are going to go that far usually they will ask the person to move to an isolated area. This is to minimize the difficulty of the situation for the woman and to make sure that people are safe (if it is a dildo grenade!)

In the event of a dildo, ownership is never implied; it's always "a dildo" or "the dildo," never "your dildo"

I used to work as a baggage handler for an airline, It was probably about once a week someone would grab a bag to load/unload and it would be vibrating like crazy. Sometimes it was a man's electric shaver but most of the time it was a females "toy". We would just call a supervisor over and open the bag and turn it off. But I have to tell you after Sept. 11th people were pretty jumpy about that sort of thing.

I want your former job, just for one day, so I could (legitimately) say "Ok, I'd like to move you to an isolated area where you can turn this on for me"

Or how about

"Come into this room and prove it's not a bomb"

I'd get fired, wouldn't I?

+1 Great scene.

6 year old thread resurrection!

To answer your question AppleMatt, typically for any search done out of the public view there are two officers present (both for safety and to cover your butt if there are complaints); so performing a search like that alone would be a no-no. (Sorry to put a damper on those dreams :) ) If the search goes beyond that of a belongings check (i.e. pat-down or full on strip search) two officers of the same gender as the person of interest must be present and perform those types of searches. In my time I did 4(?... it's been 10 years now) "personal searches" and trust me, nobody wants to be in that room, not the officers and certainly not the person of interest.

For the record I've never asked the owners of such devices prove to me that it was operational, but I have checked to see if the battery compartment contained anything else other than batteries.

I have to ask the question...

How was this old thread even found?

For AppleMatt's sake I hope he was searching for threads about trash dumps. ;)

Interesting...thanks for the info! I used to work full-time psychiatric nursing, we had similar policies there. It's amazing where people hide things.

I didn't realise the thread was 6 years old, it popped up on forum spy. I actually reported a post in it as spam before I replied so that's what triggered it...but no-one's ever going to believe that story!

Mods...back me up...otherwise I'm the forum pervert :(.

Would a real bomb vibrate, click or otherwise make detectable noise?

Aren't bomb makers smarter than that? Today I'd think they'd be using electronic timers or in airplanes a pressure sensitive device.

I'm always curious what deficiency in character makes a person want to be a TSA employee. Is it the power? Small genitalia? There's no logical reason a person wants to cause the amount of grief that is generated daily by TSA "officers" that are such incompetents that that it's a standing joke.

If I was the gal, I'd whip that strap-on on and fire it up and show him that's it is "working" - Can you feel me now? And you thought she was a porn queen, when in fact, she was a freelance proctologist.
