I have an old 27" Sony Trinitron WEGA (not widescreen) television in my basement, and I was thinking about using it with my old Apple TV so my kids could watch tv there. According to the manual, it has a video mode for 16:9 enhanced, and it has component video inputs.

According to the Apple TV page, it is: "Compatible with enhanced-definition or high-definition widescreen TVs capable of 1080p/1080i 60/50Hz, 720p 60/50Hz, 576p 50Hz (PAL format), or 480p 60Hz", but I can't figure out if that would apply to my Sony.

Should this work?

You might have to manually put the TV in "enhanced" mode. I had the 36" model, and it had to be switched manually. The next "higher" model had automatic switching. 480p should be the correct resolution setting, although some models did not handle progressive mode (if it doesn't handle progressive, you might be out of luck). You do need to use the component input.
