I have had my iPad 4 weeks now and had to buy a Belkin case as I could not get the apple case in the uk.
I also have a blue silicon case and that protects it from my 3 year old son.
Like the key ring.

One of my friend had a nice neoprene cover from Crumpler for his iPad 3G version. It is pretty good and holds the iPad very well. I have also found that most of universal iPad Cases and covers are very cheap. I don't know how about the quality. Maybe I will resist the temptation of low price cases and get one crumpler after my current iPad Case is worn out.
