I have only had Mac pro a couple weeks, so may be missing something obvious.

I mainly use cubase 5 for music production.

The Mac keyboard is slow to respond, I notice if I move the mouse right after hitting a key the command is immediately picked up.

Same for wired apple keyboard, wireless apple keyboard. I gave altered which devices are connected. With no mouse at all and one keyboard, the slowness is still there.

We are talking seconds to respond to a keystroke, it is annoying.

Ideas for the new guy on the Mac block?

Have you tried different USB ports for the wired keyboard?

Also is your mouse wireless or wired?

If it is wireless there could be something interfiering with your bluetooth. It might be worth trying it in a different room.

If this doesnt work it may be time to visit the Apple store. But dont wait too long.....after 4 weeks they wont swap your Mac Pro for a new one. They will send it off for repair.
