Magsafe Connector Question

Hello All,

I'm thinking about buying one of the Hypermac External Batteries (http://www.hypershop.com/HyperMac-External-Battery-for-MacBook-iPhone-iPad-iPod-s/91.htm) for traveling and such.

They offer their models with either the old Magsafe connector or the new, silver, tubular connector. I would prefer the tubular connector, but I have the old style MBP (non-unibody).

Is the new style connector compatible with the old style MBP?

Whenever I use the MBP on my lap with my legs crossed, I always end up pushing up the magsafe connector, and I'm always worried I'm gonna get shocked, although it has never happened.
