Is zooming on the MBP supposed to be as smooth as the iPhone?

My trackpad isn't very responsive when pinching in and out. Often I have to do it a few times to get it right. Any ways to make the zooming experience on the MBP as good as the iPhone? Thanks.

My problem is more with Safari. It zooms discretely (x1, x2, etc...) and not continuously like it does on the iPhone. Is it supposedly to be like that?

I absolutely love the pinching experience on Safari on the iPhone. But my MBP doesn't come close to that.

Zooming via pinching is just like pressing CMD++ or CMD+-, thus it is not continuously but win steps.
