I was in Chicago for the opening Bears football game and in the stadium it said I had 5 bars but I could not open any website neither could my mom and we both have iphone 4's. What could be the problem?

signal saturation in a small partially enclosed area with thousands of people, all with mobiles.

I live on campus next to my uni's football stadium, and every Saturday when there's a football game with around 100,000 attendees, I'll generally lose my signal or my text messages won't go through.

It sucks, but it was worse last year when I lived closer to the stadium than I do now. Once the game is over and everyone leaves, I'll get much better reception.

It makes sense.
At that particular time there's thousands of wireless clients trying to connect to the same 1-2 celltowers in that area and thus bringing them down to their knees.
I had the same prob at a Patriots game.

ive heard setting it to edge helps but havnt been able to try yet..anyone done this?

and go lions we got robbed

Here's an idea...put your phone in your pocket and watch the game!

I always have the same issue at (real) football games in England, even using EDGE

Hahaha...this made me laugh. You mean where all those pansies get brushed on their arms and fall down like they have been hit by a truck? Women's SOCCER has more balls.

Pretty much what everyone said... 65,000 people and half of them trying to access data all at the same time. Some arenas and stadiums are putting in WiFi throughout the stadium to lessen the loads.

Data doesn't work at Bears game?

Neither does their offensive line!

"When asked about his thoughts of his offensive line after giving up 9 sacks in the first half of the football game, Jay Cutler mumbled something unintelligible about being afraid of cheese and lint. Back to you Ron."

OR, let's watch a barbaric game where players give each others concussions for amusement ... yeah, a real sport - where people actually suffer long term brain disabilities.
Great argument, really.
It's a sport - not a colosseum.

Glad to see everyone is on topic....

OP AT&T towers are pretty weak under stress so expect that more often. Even at the Pennstate game I went to I couldn't even upload a photo of the game until everyone was gone.

I know right Real Football played 99% of the time with the foot :D

Same issue here, not everywhere though!

I went to Madrid and saw a match at the Bernabeu stadium and could do data and texts, may be they prepare for events like this?

How does other networks work in the same situation?

The same way...no matter what carrier/type of technology, too many cellular users connected to a tower is gonna slow things down or kill it completely. This also happens with WiFi networks in some cases...

Hmmm, I think its different.
People in Spain go to the stadium to watch the game.
People in America go to the stadium and call/text to let people know they're AT the game.

So i guess that means Football (with the foot) is more engaging than Football (with hands). Interesting point.

Disclaimer:

I know that works because i was sending my girlfriend a picture of Ronaldo celebrating a goal. I don't know what she sees on that guy that i dont have >_<

Lol :D
I think you summed it up pretty good.
People go on a football or baseball game in the US and they update their facebook status, upload pics and post on twitter to let every one of their friends know they're there and how cool they are:D
