Netflix app question

After googling I haven't found what i'm looking for.

I'm interested in getting the netflix app on my iphone, but I don't get very good 3g signal at my home/work. How well does the app work over edge?

why would you even think that streaming videos 30mins to 3 hours long would be a good idae :rolleyes:

i just turned off 3g to test this, and it took about 2 mins just load the homescreen, and the movie would not load

also

a) Pretty sure you shouldn't be watching movies at work
b) Just watch it on your computer at home
c) why not wifi ?

I was simply asking a question :rolleyes: After googling, i've heard it works at least somewhat decently.

I have quite a few slow periods at work, especially now that summer is over. My boss doesn't care what I do, as long as I get my **** done.
 
Edge is the dialup of cellular network data. You will get about 7kBps 20kBps if you're LUCKY,
 
I tried to do Netflix over edge. It really isn't worth your time. Play a game or something offline instead. Or, load a movie to your iPhone before work. On edge the picture is still really good, but the feed has to buffer so much that it's basically unwatchable. Seriously, it's something like play for 5 seconds, buffer 5 seconds, play 5 seconds, buffer 5 seconds. ANNOYING.

That said, I've used netflix with only one bar of 3g signal and it worked fine! If you have any 3g service at all it will probably work.

The app is free and the first month of Netflix is free. Nobody else knows what is acceptable for you so give it a try on edge (it will not cost you anything).
 
When I'm on 3G and only getting around 1mbps down I experience a bit of buffeting time to time. So I can only imagine the buffeting on edge!
 
Even if your 3G reception is good, just a friendly reminder not to consider using Netflix unless you have a grandfathered unlimited data account.

It's well worth getting a home router for wifi data btw. :)

Glad you brought that up! I forgot to mention that! I watched a few episodes of quantum leap which is about 40 minutes each and I would've burned through the 2gb plan quickly!
 
Thanks everyone for the advice and suggestions. I am grandfathered in to the unlimited plan, so I have no worries there.

So even if I have 1-2 bars of 3g, it'll run faster then say, 4-5 bars of edge?

you really need to read up on these things

you sound completely ignorant to the difference in speeds/ what the bars mean

Glad you got your answers, but sometimes its best to just google/wikipedia these things on your own. you'll learn so much more

The solution will really be available in 2015 when the 5.5G/x network is rolled out. Movies will load much more smoothly an texts will allow 175 characters (along with custom ringtones on the network side)

In 2021 microwave service will become available in major markets and the iPhone will finally see its full potential showcased.

While I appreciate your sarcasm, I would point out that current GSM networks largely work on the 1800 and 1900 MHz microwave bands, while future expansions in data service are likely to occur in the 700 and 800 MHz UHF bands vacated by analog television.

I don't know where you get your EDGE service, but I regularly get 100Kbps + on EDGE, sometimes significantly more.
