I'm running an iMac with Mac OS X 10.6.4 . It is used mainly as a database server. The database lives on an external hard drive. The problem is that Mac OS X does not mount the external drive until I log in locally. Logging in via SSH is not enough. Does anyone know how I can make OS X mount the external hard drive even if no one logs in?

you could mount it manually thought ssh.
even make a script on the client side that does it for you.

Well I don't like working around the auto mounter, also it should be mounted automatically at boot time. I could probably write a launchd job that does this, but this seems like a hack to me. I think it's really bad style that the automounter requires a user to be logged in. I wonder if time machine works if no user is logged in. How is this handled on Mac OS X server?
