The first records I bought myself were 45's of Donna Summer and Lipps, Inc. The first album I bought was Kiss's
Ace Frehley (from the late 70s solo albums). I eventually got Paul's and Gene's, but not Peter's, so I never managed to complete the fold-out poster mural. I was more into the Kiss comic-book aesthetic than the music; the only songs that got more than one play was Ace's "New York Groove" and "Fractured Mirror".
Let's just say I'm a child of the 70s, but just barely.
Most of my music collection starts in the early 80s (Human League, A Flock Of Seagulls, later Devo, Men Without Hats, Depeche Mode and Howard Jones). The first album I bought myself that I still listen to on a regular basis to this day is the cassette version of Devo's
Oh, No! It's Devo, and I consider that the "true" beginning of my collection.
