What happened to my movie?

I filmed a wedding for my friend last weekend using my iPhone 4. First I filmed about one minute of random scenes to test the setup. Then I filmed the wedding ceremony itself. The timer indicated the movie was about 12 minutes. Last, I filmed the wedding toast, about 2 minutes. When I was done I went into the Camera Roll and two of the three movies were there. Guess which one was missing. Luckily there were other cameras rolling at the time, but:

1) Is the wedding ceremony lost for good?
2) Why did this happen and is there a way to prevent this from happening?
