Downgrade EFI from 1.8 to 1.6 in late 2008 unibody MacBook Pro

I have tried to use WD Scorpio Blue 1Tb (WD10TPVT) with my MacBook Pro but it's making my computer freeze a lot. I've read it's a common problem with 3rd party hard drives and EFI downgrade generally helps. The problem is that I have EFI 1.8 and the downgrade image I have found doesn't work. Is there any way to downgrade my EFI to 1.6?
