Hi - A thousand rupees to the man or woman that helps!

I just bought an iphone 4 after having an original iphone (2g). I activated the new phone at the at&t and the clerk used a machine to transfer my contacts.

I get home and plug my new phone into my macbook. Itunes opens and offers me the option of restoring from a backed up phone. I click yes and the process begins. After the sync, I go to the phone and the following things are wrong:

- no music was copied
- no apps were copied
- although i'm 99% sure that itunes told me my old iphone was last backed up quite recently, it used a very old (like 18 months old) facsimile of the phone, reproducing all my old texts/safari data/call log/map location/notes/mailboxes/weather locations/etc

So my old iphone has all the settings and things on it that i want copied to my new iphone. Can I manage that without losing everything?
