Hi,

I am selling my iMac 2008 with Snow Leopard.. and somebody is coming to have a look.

I would like to format it when the buyer decides to buy it and leave it if it doesnt sell as I am happy to carry on using it.

Please advise me on the time it takes for the snow leopard to format ?

Thanks.

Depends on the level of security you want to use in erasing the disk
More secure passes = longer time

If you just do a quick format, doesn't taken but a moment
But the install of SL will take a little bit, but not long

yep, a quick erase will do.. just a casual user..

please advise me on the steps if you can.. thanks

How long does this process take these days?

Last time I tried it - using the most secure option, whatever that was - it took *forever*. I had to send my original iMac G5 back to Apple for a replacement (bulging capacitors on the motherboard), and erased the drive. That was using Tiger, I think.

Is the speed dependent on the physical action on the drive, or processor speed? Would optimisations in the OS have made any improvement in the time it takes?
