Keyboard acting up - is it curtains?

I have a wireless keyboard attached to my mac that works perfectly

I wanted the numeric functions of the wired keyboard, so i got one, now when it is connected things start happening on the screen, and when i open a word document to see what is being pressed the keyboard starts typing random characters by itself

my question is, is there a way to reset the keyboard or is it broken for good?

any help would be greatly appreciated
