macbook pro unibody ram, can i have more?

i have a 5,3 mbp. bought january 2010. bought with 4gb of ram. is that the max? or can more be put in?

get it on macsales.com . OWC has rebate option, you can buy their 8GB memory with lifetime warranty for about $160, then send them your apple chips and get up to $50 back.
Can't beat that.

You should keep the Apple RAM for warranty purposes. If you ever have to send it for repair, put in the original Apple RAM because they may replace the RAM with original RAM, meaning that you would lose your 8GB. Apple might also say that the issue is the RAM and thus refuse to fix it (3rd party RAM is not covered by AppleCare).

It's only 50 bucks, can't be that big deal. It's always good to have an extra pair for troubleshooting

I was going to keep mine for this very reason.
 
Look in your macbook pro packaging. Take a look at the manual. Read about replacing memory and you'll find out that swapping Hard Drive or RAM DOESN'T void your warranty.

Their rebates are not good for me:

Memory from MacBook and MacBook Pro - 1066MHz systems:
Apple Original 1GB DDR3 module - $3.00
Apple Original 2GB DDR3 Pair (1GB x 2) - $6.00
Apple Original 2GB DDR3 module - $25.00
Apple Original 4GB DDR3 Pair (2GB x 2) - $50.00
3rd Party 1GB DDR3 module - $2.50
3rd Party 2GB DDR3 module - $22.50

For a 1GB module it's only $3 bucks. If you have 2GB modules, it's not difficult to sale them by yourself for a little more.
