I recall reading that the prolonged moving of small packets of data (eg downloading via torrent) can destroy the efficiency of a solid state drive. This isn't great news, as I have a Crucial C300 installed in my laptop and need to download a set of large files via torrent in the next couple of weeks.

I read somewhere that Dropbox can be useful in the above scenario - would anybody know if this is true? Or am I best using an external drive (non-SSD)?

I'm not sure how Dropbox would help out here since the place the file would reside would be your local Dropbox folder.

Do you have any spare external HDDs lying around that you could put to such a use? That seems like it'd be a good alternative since you could set the torrent to save directly to the external disc.
