ichat not working

I had my ichat working previously and when i attempt to go and use it now it does nothing. Well I take that back, i get the icon to come up on the dock but am unable to do anything after that. If I do the control+click i get an options menu but nothing responds. I have no idea what version I have since I cant open preferences or anything to find out. Anyone help me to fix this?

Try the keyboard shortcut to the preferences - "Cmd" + "," and see if it does anything. I would try the normal stuff, like restarting the computer etc too if you haven't already. Repairing permissions might help as well, as some of its files could be messed up somehow.
