(Very sorry if my explaining of this sounds amateur, I'm not great with computers)

So basically I am making a video for youtube, with just clips from a movie, and I want to export it in the best possible quality (Im using iMovie HD)
I can either edit it on HD-1080i-30 or 720p, but I don't know how to export from these? When I try with any of them it comes out really glitchy or bad quality. Does anyone know exactly what settings to select so that it will be good? Thanks and i'd really really appreciate if anyone can help me out, again sorry if it's not clear what I'm trying to say.

Your project settings should be based on your source material, not just plucked out of a hat. If it's ripped from an NTSC DVD then it should be 480i59.94. A mismatch here could be the cause of the glitching (it certainly won't be helping), but you're going to have to describe it in more detail.
