I really like the new design of the Magsafe power cord connector. But both designs still put stress on the cord at the connector, if your Macbook is moved. I hope Apple gives the Magsafe a swivel, so the cord can move more freely as the laptop is moved. Am I the only one thinking this would be a good idea?

It'd be nice, but then Apple would have to deal with worn hinges and that would also be costly to manufacture.

That would be pretty expensive and difficult to develop I think, so chances are that they won't change it. Personally I like my old style connector, as I take good care of it.

I get it that using a swivel, being a moving part, would wear out eventually. But currently the cable installation wears out, due to bending. Just like my iPhone USB power cable does.

I think a metal swivel would have a longer life span than the cord and be very inexpensive.
