Okay!

I have a panasonic PV-DV800D older DV camcorder
and both macbooks are running imovie '09

I hook it up to old first gen macbook normal 4-pin to 6-pin firewire 400 cable and hit play on camcorder and it pops right up and imovie can control it and everything.

so obviously my new macbook pro 13" has firewire 800 8-pin and snow leopard 10.6.4

I bought this bilingual cable, 4-pin to 8-pin http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=380272895490&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT

i plug in just like the macbook 1st gen, and nothing comes up, i click import from camera all i can choose is built in isight,

steps i have completed

1. rest PRAM
2. repair disk permissions,
3.whatever left shift+ctrl+option and power button does. (my power adapter led flashed)

what I want to know is,

more trouble shooting steps I can attempt?
does this even work? should i maybe buy and try firewire 400-800 adapter, i'm afraid of it not working either
