What is the best way to update my jailbroken ios4.0.1 iphone4 to the 4.1 firmware?

I am in need of this as well ! Can someone tell us exact steps? I have jb apps already but how do i get them back after i jb on 4.1? install each one by one? D: thatd take a long time...

Are either of you bothering to read the forum?
Yes, you'll have to re-install any jb apps manually, unless you had the settings saved.

AptBackup sounds right. There's the usual caveats to the program, but it's as close as one's going to get to automated re-installation of JB programs.

Steps:

Need to unlock?

No:
1) Back up phone in iTunes
2) Update phone
3) Jailbreak with www.limera1n.com or with greenp0ison
4) Reinstall jb apps

Yes:
1)Use tinyumbrella to preserve baseband
2) Follow above steps

Simple enough?

Thanks a lot for the help, I love you guys. I've tried looking everywhere for this and yes, I tried looking on here but wasn't finding anything. So there's no way at all to keep the Cydia apps and upgrading the jailbreak??? At all???

You either re-install them or use something like aptbackup. When you upgrade to 4.1, it's like reformatting your hard drive. You don't expect to keep your apps after that happens, do you?

error 1004, Found the fix... had to edit out the last line of the hosts file in windows\system32\drivers\etc\

... the one with the ip address and something like gs.apple.somethingorother... just deleted that line and the restore worked, wheew that pissed me off for an hour.
