I currently have my MacBook plugged into external speakers via the headphone jack, but I would like to be able to choose whether to have audio going through the headphone jack or to the laptop speakers. Is there any way to do that?

Thanks!

I don't think so.

AFAIK, when something is plugged into the headphone jack, the internal speakers are disabled. If I recall correctly, it's a hardware thing, thus you can't do anything. With USB speakers, however, you can use both sound outputs at the same time (my system sounds come from internal and apps etc from external)

Actually, I'm not sure it's a "hardcore" hardware thing anymore, for example my iMac will play the start-up sound from the internal speakers even with headphones plugged in. So there might be a software workaround, who knows?
