using tinyumbrella to upgrade to 4.1

so i have the latest tinyumbrella and i have it plugged in, then i start tss but what after that? i have a mac and will be using hte limera1n to jb. i just dont want to mess anything up. i also want to preserve my baseband for future selling of my iphone4.

how do i just upgrade from 4.0.1 to 4.1? i know you have to do option/restore in itunes, but dont know where to go from there. please help quickly.


also is itunes 10.0 ok or do i need to upgrade to itunes 10.0.1???

Its hard to go wrong with the upgrade using Tiny umbrella but you should look at the readme on the site. The basis on with TU umbrella works is that apple is signing both the FW and the BB separately. Tiny umbrella spoofs the FW signing but not the BB signing and hence the second part of the upgrade fails because the BB is not signed. This gives you a 1004 error and you have to kick it out of recovery. You can do the same thing by changing the host files and using Saurik get same error and then use TU to kick out of recovery.

but when i check option restore on my mac, a finder comes up and i dont have a file to select. what do i do? do i have to d/l 4.1 software first from somewhere else to select?

Yup. IIRC Tiny Umbrellas website links to a factory copy of 4.1
 
go to iclarified and download the proper version of the firmware for your iphone
start up umbrella
start up tss server
go to itunes, and option+restore
pick the firmware
wait for it to install
if an error message (1004?) comes up, exit itunes + umbrella and disconnect the phone
connect the phone, and load up umbrella
click kick out of dfu mode
you're done and probably kept your original baseband

load limera1n
click make it rain
follow instructions

done

to install cydia press on limera1n icon
install cydia
click limera1n icon again, and click delete limera1n

aww, found it. i had to do some searching. its funny that they have tu newest verison easily findable but not fw 4.1.

Download the firmware for your device to your computer from here:

http://ios.e-lite.org/

For example, if you have an iPhone 4 and an SHSH for iOS 4.1, click on the text "historical (click to expand)" at the bottom of the page and download the iPhone 4 "4.1 (8B117)" firmware.

but im on 4.0.1 right now, so i cant do the historical one right? since i dont have 4.1 shsh.
 
what is the point of having cydia save your blobs if you cant ever do anything with that? or am i completely wrong?
 
do i have to restore as a new iphone or can i restore from last back up?
