I swear by WD. I've never *knock on wood* had a problem with one of their hard drives. I wouldn't recommend Seagate; I've known quite a few people who have lost data when their Seagate External drives bit the dust.

Anecdotal information from single users is not reliable. Unless you have statistically reliable data from a large sample, you should just buy the cheapest model from a major manufacturer that is compatible and has the speed, size, and features you want.

this is true. all drive brands have some failure rate.

but pretty much any 7200rpm wd seagate hitachi will be similar. you will have users that swear by each. i like my seagate. i had a hitachi 7k500 and i like my seagate momentus 7200.4 500gb better. iv only had one wd drive and im not even sure which model it was. it was a long time ago, all i can say was it worked...

I returned a WD HD soon after it went on the blink after I dropped my MB. I was very pleased to receive a brand new one in the post soon later.

After sales policies may be worth checking on?
