Fix a broken power adapter

Hi all, I have a 2007 MacBook with a MagSafe adapter. Yesterday I noticed my adapter was plugged in but the computer was running on battery life. A little adjustment and it started again, but it said "Not Charging". I've noticed a small tear in the cord on the MacBook end with some exposed wiring. The computer continues to flip between "Not Charging" and battery life whenever I move it slightly.

I'd like to get this fixed without having to purchase a new adapter, since I plan on selling the computer soon, Is there anything I can do?
 
also, don't leave it plugged in when you're not around, had the same problem with mine, and when it finally went, it did so in a quick burst of sparks, nothing too serious, but if it was close to something flammable, and you weren't there to catch it, it could be bad.

If you're planning on upgrading to a new macbook, the chargers are interchangeable, so just buy an extra one now, and you can use it for the new one, or have on to sell the laptop with.
 
I went to a local Apple specialist store and they said they don't repair damaged power adapters. I've gone to Apple's support website but haven't found a way to talk to them for free. I don't know what else to do. I'm not paying for a new power adapter when the one I have is barely damaged, and especially not since I'm getting rid of this thing ASAP. What are my other options?
