I'm becoming heavily invested in dropbox, it's really helped solve a lot of hassles over the last month or so with my work. I've been able to work on documents as I move between work and home, and when at workshops and seminars I've likewise been able to draw up important documents even when I didn't have my notebook or thumbdrive with me.

I'd like to extend this flexibility to the iPad, and allow myself to be able to work or create documents when I only have my iPad available. I'm not expecting all of the features of Office or Open Office, but enough so that I can get the point across in my work. My principle work would be to be creating and working on "doc" files. And of course I'd want it to be integrated to dropbox so I can just save it directly into dropbox.

I think that is probably the key element. What would be perfect would be to save directly into dropbox, not transfer it in after I've worked on a document. I'm trying to achieve fluid ubiquity with my files, I don't want to add any other procedures, just opening and saving files.

Both QuickOffice (http://itunes.apple.com/us/artist/quickoffice-inc/id294258240) and Documents To Go (http://itunes.apple.com/us/artist/dataviz-inc/id317107312) allow you to open or save a documents directly to a DropBox account.

I currently use Docs To Go. It seems to have the best MS Office capability. The owners, Dataviz was recently purchased by RIM (makes of Blackberry phones) so I am not sure how long they will still support the iPhone.

Another benefit of Docs To Go is the app is universal (works on both iPhone and iPad).

+1 to the above.

I used to find QuickOffice and Docs2Go fairly comparable, each with pros and cons. One pro for both was excellent 'cloud' support.

But with revisions over the last few months Docs2Go makes QuickOffice look dated ...

Does Docs To Go have arrow keys on the keyboard by any chance? I am using QuickOffice, and I also have Numbers, but neither has arrow keys for navigating through spreadsheets. I assume the keyboard is part of the app, and a developer could add the arrow keys? Or is the keyboard something universal and devs can't change it?

YES!!! I mentioned it in another thread, but that is a major thing for me. It is such a pain to have my iPad in the keyboard dock and have apps ignore anything but what is present in the on-screen. I could see if I was using some odd 3rd party thing, but Apple's own dock should be fully supported!

You got me excited, I thought with the "YES!!!" you were saying yes it does have the arrow keys. So why do no apps have them? Is Apple the reason behind this?

Sorry ... I started a rambling rant ...

Yes - Docs 2 Go has arrow key support across the entire suite.

My thing was that since it is an Apple keyboard, and works in some places, I find it inexcusable that it isn't universally adopted.

What I'm looking for is an on screen keyboard with arrows, I can't find a screenshot of the spreadsheet in Docs2Go that shows the on screen keyboard. I want to try Docs2Go, but after spending money on Numbers, QuickOffice, and Office2HD, I really don't want to throw away more $. I hear good things on these forums and elsewhere about Docs2Go, but the reviews in iTunes aren't that great.

Oh ... I misunderstood. I think the on-screen keyboard is an integrated service and therefore totally apple dependent.
