Split iPhoto Library?

How do I split my existing iPhoto library? I wanna split my existing iphoto library by organizing iPhoto libraries by year, so if I create a new library, how can I transfer some of the photos on my existing iphoto library to the new iPhoto library I just created? Please advise. Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
 
I set up folders by years and physically moved my pictures into each corresponding year-folder. I suppose the next local step would be to make each folder year a library???
