I have always loved the look for the original iPhone so I want to try to make the housing into a case for my iphone 4. I found a website to pick up the housing for around $10 so that shouldn't be a problem.

Has anyone ever tried anything like this? I feel that with a few modifications I can make it work. Any idea?

The original backing was made of aluminum. I don't know if you've read any posts around here, but the consensus is that aluminum will completely hose your reception. As such, I'd say you'd be better off just going with one of those aluminum back plates that won't contact the antenna at all.
