I received my custom-ordered 13" Macbook Air today which was custom upgraded to 4gb RAM.

However, I went to the Apple Store and realized I really want the 11".

Is it true that Apple won't allow me to return it because it is not the stock configuration? The packaging is unopened. I do not plan on opening it.

You might be able to return if unopened. I would call them and ask. But in general, custom configurations can't be returned.

While you may/may not be able to return it, why not just advertise on this forum, I'm sure you could find a buyer for a maxed 13" unopened pretty quick.

Are you wanting the 11" 1.4/2gig/64 or 128?? If so I would be interested in a trade/swap as I had a large Best Buy store credit so i went with the stock but really would like a 13" with 4gigs. I live in Kansas City, am willing to work something out if your here in the US. PM me, happy to talk on the phone and figure out a way to get us both what we want. (unless your looking for a 4gig 11" then I can't help as BB doesn't carry, nor will they order any of the them in 4gig models)

well if anyone is interested, i live in Seattle.

I put it on craigslist to see what i could get.

it is a 13" 128gb SSD 1.86gHz 4gb RAM model. I'd like to get what i paid for it, but unfortunately WA state sales tax is like 10%. I'd probably have to find someone local who needs it now to make it worthwhile

It looks like Apple may have changed the return policy?

The website does not list custom configs as not returnable,
unless I am missing it, unopened full refund, opened 10% restock ...

Notes the order can not be changed or canceled once prepared but returns seem possible?

Custom-Configured Product

Apple offers certain products that may be custom-configured to your specifications. Please review your order carefully. Once your custom-configured item has been prepared for shipment, it may not be changed or canceled. Learn more about Apple's Return and Refund Policy.

You can return CTO Mac no problem.

I wasn't sure if I could get my 11" before biz trip so I planned to snatch a 4GB one at retail Fruit Stand. I called the customer service and asked if I could return CTO'ed 11" once I receive it.

They said no problem and even sent me return label just in case. I ended up receiving the original order today so I didn't execute my "plan B" but I could return my CTO 11" no problem if I wanted to. They said they'll even cover the shipping so it's super easy.

Good luck. Call and see. It used to be it had to be DEFECTIVE.

Maybe now they changed that.

This used to ward me off from the online Apple store -- their return policy states that BTO products cannot be returned unless they arrive DOA. However, they recently changed their policy and accept returns of BTO items as well. I'd chat with an Apple representative online to be sure but I think you can definitely return it as long as you didn't open it :)
