I have a friend that just purchased a used Macbook for his daughter. He wants me to clean it out and the best way to do that is to format and reinstall the OS. He didn't get any discs with the MB. My question, does the license stay with the laptop or the discs? Is it legal for me to use my discs to recover his laptop?

Thanks

Unless your disks are retail disks, they will not work on another macbook unless it is an identical model. You can tell retail = black disk with X on it, recovery disk = grey

It might also look like a white disc with a snow leopard on it. In other words, grey discs are the ones that came with the computer, anything else is likely retail.
