I have an iPhone 2G and recently brought the iPhone 4.

Im wondering whether at some point very soon the 2G software side of the things will become obsolete? After the latest iTunes update the phone has become alittle slow and backup & installing things via itunes takes awhile.

I planned on keeping it as a second phone which just stays at home with my second / backup sim in it. I wouldn't want to use any other OS on some other phone.

Any advice on whether its worth cashing it in now?
Or will itunes always support it?
I suppose i could always use it independent of itunes?
How long will apps support 3.2 OS?

Thanks.

I'm guessing apps will support 3.2 until iOS 5 comes out at which point most of them will begin dropping support. iTunes most likely will continue to support it, it still supports the 1st gen iPod, so I don't think you need to worry about that.
