Hi guys,

My macbook late 2008 unibody has been a wonderfull companion for the last 2 years but the time has come to give it a slight upgrade.
I'm thinking about upgrading my hard drive.
the need to use parallels and an ever growing photo library are stressing the limits of my current 160GB hard drive.
Therefore i was thinking about getting the following hard drive.

Do you guys see any problems with it or will it run smoothly without any problems when replacing the drive with the one i suggested?

Excellent :)
i've read a few threads about similar hard drives, but not for this one :)
better safe then sorry i guess :)

Ok, thanks for the comment but in the mean time i already bought the linked hdd. Im not sure how much the hdd you linked costs but i was going for high capacity at an affordable price. I got mine for around 60€.

I must say that im very glad i did this upgrade. Mac seems slightly faster and off course the extra capacity is welcome.

I have an early 08' MBP (see my sig) and am planning to upgrade with 6 GB RAM and a Momentus XT hard drive.

SSDs are too expensive right now.

I have the same unit.

Upgraded the HDD to 320GB 7200RPM drive. Fry's had it on sale for $40.

Also upgraded the RAM to 4GB.

It's a significantly faster system now than it was 2 years ago.

Any good deals on the RAM? Crucial has free shipping but you have to wait 12 days and it's $85.99.

I already have 4GBs of memory. But lately I've benn thinking about taking out the 1TB drive, putting all of my movies (800GB+) on a RAID 1 external, and installing a 7200RPM Western Digital. My HDD is undoubtedly the bottleneck in my system.

I don't know about now. I got my RAM about a year ago when prices had somewhat bottomed out. It was around $70 after taxes at Fry's for 4GB. A pack of 2x2GB.

The 7200RPM drive definitely made my Mac feel like a whole new system. Most apps open in less than half the time they used to. Writing out big files takes less than half the time it used to with the stock 160GB drive. It definitely made a difference!

If you thought the 5400RPM to 7200RPM upgrade was nice, wait until you upgrade 7200RPM to SSD :D

It is nice that our "old" laptops still have it in them  :apple:
