Does anyone know if the download of Office 2011 comes in a burnable disk image format? Buying the DVD costs an extra $13, but I’d like to have an install disk just in case. Can I just burn the download to a blank DVD and be all set?

Yes. It is a dmg file about 850MB in size. I used Disk Utility to burn a DVD from the file. Note that when you go to Microsoft's site, you first download a small executable file that initiates the download of the main file.

OK thanks! Before I buy it on there, I’m still waiting for my school to get it so I can see how much it will be through them. They have an offer now of 2008 for $72 and a $10 upgrade to 2011 when it’s available, but the guy I asked didn’t know if it would be Academic or Home and Student. Plus it’ll probably just be cheaper when I can buy it directly.

I’ll wait and see what the price is.

I wish my school was one of the ones that gave it away free or ridiculously cheap :(
