Unable to set encrypted passowrd in iTunes 10.0.1.22

I recently updated my phone to iOS 4.1, for that i needed latest iTunes 10 which I downloaded from the iTunes website, the version is 10.0.1.22.

Somehow when I try to install apps on my iphone via iTunes now, it requires me to set an encryption password. I've tried a variety of combinations, alpha, apha numeric, speaicl characters, 4 digit password but none gets accepted. I just keep getting a message saying the password cannot be set. Any ideas?
