Today when i turned my macbook pro on i saw a java icon in my menu bar. I don't want it there so i <command> clicked it to drag it off, but that didn't work, so I went into preferences and tried to uncheck 'see in menu bar' but there wasn't this box. please help me figure out how to delete this icon

What happens if you right-click or Option-click or even left-click on the icon? Do you get a drop-down menu with options?

yes, when i option click i get a drop down with the following: 1.open java console and 2. open java preferences. i tried going into preferences and finding the box to uncheck having it in the menu bar, but it wasn't in there

Have you tried restarting your computer?
