Thanks to doc750 for mentioning them in another post!

On my way home I was reading a thread on someone looking to get the 13" pro from the Apple store & out of all the suggestions it was brought up to try micro center if there's one near you... So happens there's one about 30 minutes from me. The deal was $200 off a new basic MacBook Pro 13" model MC374LL/A and it was an instant in-store savings. Since I finally decided this was the new Mac for me I went in to see what was what. Only down side was that others got iLife 09' with it. The salesman in the store also told me it would have that as well. Either way I was saving $150 if I bought it so I went for it. When I got to the car I popped the box open just to be sure it was not damaged etc. and to my surprise there was an iLife 11' update disc inside!

So now I'm really happy with my new toy.... All I need to get is an ssd and I'm good to go and saved a good bit of $.

Just wanted to share and say thanks to the great members here for the help.

nice!:] Isn't ilife a 7 dollar update if you just bought a mac anyway??

I heard that but was not sure lol ... Either way it was great to open a box and find that it was more then I expected and that when I got home I could just turn it on and do the updates. In 20 minutes I was updated and good to go.

999.99 plus NY tax... $1,086 at the register.

$200 was taken off right there.

I've suggested it to new yorkers before cause I live here... if you cross to Jersey, the Microcenter in paterson is in a special revival tax zone, 3.5% so the macbook pro is 1035 out the door. :) another 50$ savings

Also check the macbook, it goes on and off sale there for 799 out the door.

wow this is great news, I am buying a 13" macbook pro for my sister for X-mas I will definitely try microcenter in NJ. Definitely worth the 20 minute drive :)

got mine from them in June, no probs here

pushy salesman though, kept saying that I wouldn't be able to do anything on my MBP w/o buying Office... made 0 sense but okay ;)

Congrats on your purchase.

I did the same thing a couple weeks back, and I am still thrilled to death.

Microcenter FTW! :apple:

Your welcome!

Glad it worked out so well for you.

Another tip, I sometimes have high dollar items shipped to my uncle's house in Delaware, and avoid the sales tax as well. So if you have family there, or the store is there, it's a great way to save some real cash.

I had my wife's engagement ring sent there. Some serious $$$$$ savings.

Congratulations! Was the iLife '11 disc in with the other discs or was it just on top of the MacBook Pro? Had the box been opened and resealed (2 seals) or was it the original factory seal?

Yep, :apple: iLife ’11 Hardware Up-to-Date Program

It was in a seperate single disc holder under the mac but on top of the black envelope that has the book and restore discs. Definatly factory sealed and NOT opened.

Cool! I always wondered if that kind of thing was done by the Reseller or Apple, I guess that answers the question. Thanks.

Ahhh yes. I should have mentioned, their salesmen are payed on commission. So beware :p When ever i buy something there they always want to put their little sticker on it haha.

"they always want to put their little sticker on it" -- what does that mean?

This is the exact same deal I got a month ago when I picked up my Macbook Pro from a MicroCenter in Dallas. Its my first Mac but I quickly learned everything and its so hard to get it away from me. Love everything about it.

They have a sticker with their id or whatever that they scan at the register. To give credit to the salesmen and or women.

New York loses out by having such an abusively high sales tax. We buy our electronics in tax-free New Hampshire as we're up there 5 or 6 times per year. I never thought to go to Microcenter so thanks for that tip.
